Local Legends
aand the
Dining Out Capital of the U.S.
a
Twenty Tarrant County restaurants
have been featured on various
culinary TV shows from Diners, Drive-
Ins & Dives to Best Thing I Ever Ate. A
few Top Chef contestants have set up
shop in Fort Worth since appearing on
the reality show, so what is it about
North Texas that creates this excellent
culinary environment?
Diners in the Dallas/Fort Worth
area eat out more often than
residents of any other major city or
metroplex with 70 percent more
restaurant transactions than the
national average. Residents also
spend 12 percent more than average
each time they open a menu. The
combination of eating out 3.6 days
a week and paying more per meal
results in local diners spending about
91 percent more on eating out than
the average U.S. household each
month. Other North Texas cities
including Plano and Austin prove to
have healthy dining out appetites
as well making Texas the unofficial
capital of U.S. dining out culture.
